Number 7, Same as number 6, but for TVs, cars, and smartphones. Number 6, Doesn't work with Chrome OS or Chromebooks, again, most likely there are reviews with this complaint. Number 5, Windows won't play DVDs as there is a license required, VLC is a free player that plays most DVDs. Number 1, this is a DVD drive and won't play Blurays (Duh) but I'm sure if you read some of the reviews this is a complaint. With an external drive you may not be able to eject the disk if it is not connected to a computer for power. Number 8 is the standard way to release a disk from a drive. If your laptops have USB 3 connectors you should be good. Number 3, probably isn't an issue unless you have an older laptop. You don't have to plug in, but if you're going to be using it for a period of time, like watching a movie, you battery may die. Number 2 is because the external drive will draw power and your laptop battery will discharge faster, so they recommend plugging in. How can I determine if my laptop has enough power?Ĩ. Is this because otherwise it will drain the battery or because it won't work.ģ. There are some gaps around the buttons in the hole.
Recommend to install VLC player or 5K player before using this DVD drive to play CDs and DVDs.Date transfer speed is also affected by the computer and system environment. Please make sure your laptop can supply enough power for external DVD drive, or use a self-powered hub before purchasing. Please connect the laptop external power supply when you use this external optical drive. This is not a Blu-ray drive, can not play Blu ray discs.Powered and transmitted by faster USB 3.0 connector, no need an extra power cable. One I like is this Rooful drive:īut a couple of comments caused me to worry about it: I guess these slim laptops don't have room.Īnyway, I've been researching USB drives.
Neither have built-in DVD drives, which I take it is standard these days.
I do have two other computers with Sata inputs that I could try but now the drive is erased it's hard to be sure which port it's on.We have 2 Win10 laptops - One Dell and one Surface Book Pro. Thankfully everything I have read tells me as long as my key dump is fine, (which I think it is as I did it 4 times to make sure) I should be able to get it flashed.
I had to give up late last night and I am now in a position of having a erased LiteOn drive that I can't flash! blink.gif Liteon Dvd Rom Drive Model Etdu108 Drivers For Mac Windows 10 VicTsing External CD Drive, USB 3.0 Portable Slim External DVD Drive, CD-RW DVD +/-RW Drive DVD/CD ROM Rewriter Burner Writer, High Speed Data Transfer for Desktop Laptop Windows and Mac OS(Black) 59.99. I have successfully flashed an Hitachi drive with this setup (minus the Maximus of course) twice in the past.
I did install PORTIO32 correctly (I believe) and am using a PC with a NvVideo Sata board. I am using Jungleflasher with the Maximus USBXtractor. I restarted the PC again and tried again but could not get a valid ID. Then I got to a point where it would no longer even give me enough time to power cycle the drive, it would immediately give me the following info. To even get into Windows I have to wait until the OS is fully booted and then connect the drive, at which point the PC will freeze for 3 minutes before I can continue. At this point I accidentally closed the DVD drive but thankfully I read here this should be OK (I used the info here to reopen it half way).Īlso every time I turn on the DVD drive or connect it to the PC the PC freezes for about 3 minutes, making the process very painful. I got to the erasing the drive part of the tutorial and it wouldn't return a valid ID after several attempts, I am powering my drive from my xbox and it's pretty much impossible to power it on/off in 1 seconds as the guide says and while I have got it in vendor mode a few times I get 0x80 most of the time and even when I got it in vendor mode I didn't get the Device ID at all, so it refused to write.Įventually the PC froze on my after several attempts and I had to reboot. I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I am having a very similar problem and this thread helped a little (at least to ease my fears that I had just bricked my drive).
